ISRO’s giant stride: India’s Space agency has had 47 launches since 2014, 89 in total

New Delhi: India Space Research Organization (ISRO) added another milestone in its space odyssey by successfully launching Chandrayaan-3 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on Friday. As it came on back of failed Chandryaan-2 mission in 2019, the space agency is receiving widespread admiration & appreciation.

The blasting off Chandrayaan-3 marks ISRO’s third moon mission and promises to put India in a select league of nations. Moreover, the proposed Gangayan Mission slated for late 2023 or early 2024 is already getting global spotlight owing to its ambitious step to put an ‘Indian in the space’. Prior to Gangayaan, the ISRO will be sending two unmanned missions in space.

ISRO, with its series of space programs, has placed India in an elite club of nations. Talking about its journey, the space agency has carried out more space missions under Modi government than any other regime. Rather, the space launches during Modi govt are greater than all those missions under previous govts combined.

According to Indian Express, the national space agency after its inception in 1969 has carried out 89 launch missions via PSLV, GSLV launches to send satellites in space. However, its space launches under Modi govt outnumbers the launches during previus govts combined.

Since 2014, after Narendra Modi govt came to power, the ISRO has carried out 47 launches. Among other govts that saw maximum launches include Manmohan Singh & Atal Bihari Vajaypee govts, with 24 and 6 in numbers respectively. The iconic Chandrayaan- 1 and Mangalyaan were undertaken during Manmohan Singh govt.

ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 heralded the launch of India’s third moon mission and will look to place the spacecraft into an orbit around the Earth by by the heavy lift LVM3 rocket. The spacecraft is slated to make a robotic soft landing on the surface of moon on August 23 and if the mission succeeds, India will become only the fourth nation to achieve this feat, with others being United States, Russia, and China
