Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren summoned by ED on August 14

Hemant Soren is facing investigation over alleged charges of money laundering in connection with illegal mining case in Jharkhand’s Sahebganj district.

New Delhi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was on Tuesday summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in a money laundering case, news agency PTI reported.

The Jharkhand CM has been asked to report to ED office in Ranchi on August 14 to record his statement in the case. His statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) Act 2002.

Hemant Soren is facing investigation over alleged charges of money laundering in connection with illegal mining case in Jharkhand’s Sahebganj district.

The Chief Minister has been accused of flouting rules by allotting himself a mining lease in 2021, while being in charge of state’s mining ministry.

Hemant Soren has denied any wrongdoing in the case and claimed that this was a conspiracy by his political rivals to ‘harass a tribal leader.’

Jharkhand CM has been quizzed by the investigative agency once, owing to alleged irregularities in mining lease allotment. While Jharkhand CM faced ED grilling, there were wide speculations of him losing the assembly membership and subsequently the state plunging into a political crisis.
