Jharkhand: Tension prevails in Sahibganj over vandalisation of Hanuman Temple by miscreants

As the news of vandalization spread this morning, a group of right wing outfits and local population gathered near the temple and shouted slogans against the district administration.

New Delhi: Amid the mindless violence in Bihar & Bengal, having started from Ram Navami, Sahibganj area of Jharkhand on Monday recorded ‘stressful situation’ after vandals ran amok in the city and caused damage to a Hanuman temple.

The Hanuman Temple near Patel Chowk was reportedly vandalized by miscreants on Friday. The cops have taken one person in custody and he is being interrogated. Additional police forces were deployed in the region to keep situation under control.

As the news of vandalization spread this morning, a group of right wing outfits and local population gathered near the temple and shouted slogans against the district administration.

In the video released by ANI, the people could be seen shouting slogans while the police remains positioned in the area in huge numbers. Internet has also been in the area after the temple was vandalised.

“We are verifying the CCTV footage recovered from the spot. Some have been identified, whose questioning will occur today. District Administration will take stringent action against them,” said Ramniwas Yadav, Sahibganj Deputy Commissioner told ANI.

Reports said, citing a policeman, that a Hanuman idol was damaged by the miscreants during violence and the same was now repaired & installed inside the temple.

According to a PTI report, violent clashes broke out between two communities in Sahibganj on Saturday, during the immersion of Durga idol. A senior police officer is said to be injured in the clashes.
Notably, Goddess Durga is worshipped during the Chaitra Navratri in the state.
