Kerala accounts for 50% of daily Covid-19 cases in India; Malappuram logs over 4,000 cases a day

Malappuram, Muslim dominated district saw major Covid norms violation during Bakrid festival.

New Delhi: Kerala reported 22,129 new cases and 156 deaths on Wednesday(July 27). With this Kerala becomes first state in the last 50 days to report over 20,000 fresh Covid cases in a single day.

The active caseload in the state has reached 1,45,371, while the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) increased to of 12.35 per cent.

With this, Kerala now accounts for 50% of daily Covid-19 cases in India. Over the last 1 week, both the overall total no. of cases & positivity rate have increased.

Muslim majority Malappuram district logged over 4,000 cases in a single day.

Earlier, Supreme Court slammed Kerala government for easing lockdown curbs on Eid.

There are currently 436387 people under quarantine in various districts of the state. Of these, 4,09,931 are under home / institutional quarantine and 26,266 in hospitals. Today, 2351 people were admitted to the hospital.
