Kerala: Corona cases record worrying surge, over 24,000 cases in past 24 hours

The total infection count has risen to 38,51,984 and fatalities to 19,757 till date. The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) also jumped to 18.04 per cent from 15.63 per cent on Monday.

New Delhi: While the Corona cases figure continue to decline for past couple of days, the surging number in Kerala is sending a worrying signal. On Tuesday, Kerala alone reported over 24,000 Covid-19 cases, its highest figure since May 26 when it recorded over 28,000 cases.

Nationally, Corona cases have dipped to almost 30,000-40,000 per day but Kerala alone accounting for over 24,000 cases is enough to send alarming bells ringing for the state govt as well as the Centre.

In fact, the state has been battling spread of Corona cases for last 1 month. On May 29, it recorded over 24,000 cases while on August 3, it logged 23,676 cases. After May 29, the state crossed the 20,000 mark on July 27 when it reported 22,129 fresh cases and since then it has been logging more than or close to 20,000 cases on almost every day.

The districts which are worst affected due to Covid-19 include Ernakulam (3,149 cases), Thrissur (3,046), Kozhikode (2,875), Malappuram (2,778), Palakkad (2,212), Kollam (1,762), Kottayam (1,474), Thiruvananthapuram (1,435), Kannur (1,418), Alappuzha (1,107) and Pathanamthitta (1,031).

The state government along with Central team is keeping a strong vigil on the spread of fresh cases and also surveillance of infected people. A total of 4,41,012 people are in home or institutional quarantine and 26,039 in hospitals.
