Maharashtra horror: ‘Missing’ for 8 days, Covid-19 patient’s body found in hospital toilet

The death came to light after some patients in the hospital complained of foul smell emanating from the toilet, where the body lying for eight days.

New Delhi: In a shocking incident that exposes the apathy of hospital authorities as well as state administration, an 82-year-old woman who had gone missing for 8 days from government hospital, was found dead inside a toilet of the same hospital.

The woman tested positive for COVID-19 on May 27 and had been under treatment since then at Jalgaon Civil Hospital.

Mumbai hospital -According to police, the octogenarian went missing on June 2. A case was filed on June 6 after all the searches, including scanning of CCTV footage, went in vain.

The death came to light after some patients in the hospital complained of foul smell emanating from the toilet, where the body lying for eight days.

The woman was from Bhusawal town in the district, where she was initially admitted to a local hospital run by the railways. She was taken to Jalgaon civil hospital on June 1 and was tested coronavirus positive the next day.

Officials from the district collectorate said, “It is true that her body was found in the toilet of the civil hospital. The door was locked from inside,” reported a leading daily.

2nd such incident in past 3 days

This is the second such incident in the state in the past three days. On Tuesday, an 80-year-old male COVID-19 patient, who had gone missing from the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali since Sunday, was found dead near the Borivali station. It is believed that he was killed in a train mishap.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has ordered a probe into the incident.
