Ganguly created confusion today as he said he shares a close relationship with West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee

New Delhi: After having dinner with Union home minister Amit Shah, Sourav Ganguly created speculation about joining the BJP on Friday. However, Ganguly created confusion today as he said he shares a close relationship with West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee while inaugurating a private hospital in Kolkata.

During the private dinner, Shah was joined by Ganguly, his wife dancer Dona Ganguly, and brother Sneshaish Ganguly. Shah came with Swapan Dasgupta, state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar and the leader of Opposition in the West Bengal assembly, Suvendu Adhikari.

After the dinner, Sourav asserted that he called the home minister for dinner due to his old association.

He also said, ”He knows Amit Shah since 2008. I used to meet while playing. There is nothing more than that.”

On the speculation of Sourav’s joining of BJP, his wife Dona said, ”I don’t know whether Sourav will join politics or not. But he will also do well if he joins politics. I am sure he will do good work for the people.”

The recent development triggered speculation in the media reports that Ganguly is considering joining BJP.

However, the confusion surfaced after Ganguly said, ”Our honourable CM Mamata Banerjee is a very close person to me. I had approached her to help us with this institute.”

Meanwhile, the BCCI chief also metioned Firhad Hakim. ”I am very close to Firhad Hakim. We know each other since we were in Class 1. He has been our family friend. All who approch him get help. I too have called him several times.”

Firhad Hakim holds Transport and Housing ministry in the West Bengal government.
