Meet Ranchi businessman who runs ‘Roti Bank’; feeds 200 people daily free of cost

The bank also distributes the food among the poor that it collects from marriage parties and other ceremonial gatherings.

New Delhi: In a world full of selfish people, it is very uncommon to see anyone who thinks about others. However, a businessman, Vijay Pathak, in Jharkhand’s Ranchi is sending a good message to society by feeding the people free of cost. He took this initiative around 2.5 years back. He also named his initiative ‘Roti Bank Ranchi’.

Roti Bank situated near Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences

Fouty-two-year-old Vijay Pathak has been running the bank for the last 2.5 years. He established his bank near the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi so that he can satisfy the hunger of more poor people.

The entire cost of the bank is borne by Pathak. However, he also receives food grains from others as a charity. Every day, Pathak feed around 200 people.

In the initial days of his initiative, Pathak and his wife used to food around 15-20 people on the footpath. Talking about the initiative, Pathak said the idea for the Bank came when his father was admitted to RIMS for around a month.

”16 years ago, my father was admitted to RIMS. I used to many people sleeping on an empty stomach due to a lack of money. At that time I decided that whenever I became capable, I will give free food to these people,” said Pathak.

Notably, the day came on March 1, 2020, when Pathak launched the Pank, just before the pandemic outbreak.

At the bank, each food plate costs around Rs 20. Pathak said he pays the amount from his own pocket and never accepts money for the campaign.

Pathak said we also distribute the food among the poor that we collect from marriage parties and other ceremonial gatherings.
