Mobile phones banned in Covid-19 hospitals after viral video, BJP raps Mamata govt

BJP took strong objection to such diktat by Mamata govt and questioned the rationale behind banning it for doctors and healthcare workers.

New Delhi: The Mamata Banerjee government today announced to ban use of mobile phones inside government hospitals, even for doctors.

“One of the most infectious devices is the mobile we are using. Go to any sophisticated hospital these days and they will say mobile phones carry more germs than even shoes. We cannot take that risk. We have arranged for landlines and mobile phones should be kept outside the CCUs and ICUs. This is applicable to doctors, patients and everybody,” Bengal chief secretary Rajiva Sinha announced.

This came soon after a video of went viral which showed abysmal conditions at a Covid-19 hospital. This was apparently shared by Union Minister Babul Supriyo.

Supriyo also sought a probe into the lapses that the patient alleged while showing the insides of the ward.
