Muslim leader’s name in UP temple irks right wing outfit, latter dismantles water cooler foundation stone

Samajwadi Party (youth wing) leader Salman Shahid donated a water cooler to an ancient temple in the city and reportedly got his name inscribed on the temple wall.

New Delhi: A temple in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh is under the spotlight over dismantling of the foundation stone of a water cooler bearing Muslim leader’s name. Samajwadi Party (youth wing) leader Salman Shahid donated water cooler to the ancient temple in the city and reportedly got his nameplate inscribed on the temple wall.

This irked the local Bajrang Dal activists, who reportedly went to the temple premises and smashed down the foundation stone of a water cooler bearing Muslim leader’s name.

A purported video of the right wing outfit smashing the foundation stone has gone viral on social media.

“We cannot tolerate the name of a person from another community inside the temple premises,” TOI quoted Karan Chaudhary, an activist of the saffron outfit as saying.

The temple authorities have registered a complaint with police station, claiming that some anti-social elements destroyed the stone.

The Samajwadi Party leader donated the water cooler to Mahadev temple in Aligarh, two days ago. The unveiling and inauguration of water cooler was done in presence of temple priests, pictures of which the SP leaders shared on his Facebook account, 2 days ago.
