Newly inducted & elevated ministers take charge after Cabinet expansion

The swearing-in ceremony, which took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan amid COVID-19 protocols, came days ahead of the monsoon session of parliament.

New Delhi: A day after the Union cabinet reshuffle, a number of newly inducted and elevated took charge of their office. They include Ashwini Vaishnaw – Railways and IT minister, Mansukh Mandaviya – the new Health Minister, Anurag Thakur – I&B minister and Kiren Rijiju, the new Law Minister.

G Kishan Reddy assumes office as Union Minister of Culture and Tourism

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Thursday took charge as the Minister of Culture and Tourism.

G Kishan Reddy, BJP MP from Secunderabad in Telangana, was inducted as Minister of State for Home Affairs in 2019 in the second term of the NDA government led by PM Modi. Starting as a youth worker, Reddy rose through the ranks and became the chief of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha from 2002 to 2005.

He was elected as an MLA from Himayatnagar constituency in 2004 and continued to represent the seat till 2014. Later he was elected as an MLA from the Amberpet assembly constituency.

Virendra Kumar assumes office as MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment

Lok Sabha Member from Madhya Pradesh Virendra Kumar took charge as Minister of State (MoS) for the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on Thursday.

He replaced Thawar Chand Gehlot, who was appointed Karnataka governor ahead of the reshuffle on Wednesday. Kumar is the Member of Parliament from Tikamgarh constituency in Madhya Pradesh.

Kumar has in the past served as Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs in the first Modi government.

He is also a member of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) and a member in standing committee on labour.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar assumes office as MoS in Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology

 Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday took charge as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Rajya Sabha MP and national spokesperson of BJP Rajeev Chandrasekhar has been appointed as the Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and also given the charge of Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology. Chandrasekhar on Wednesday took oath as Minister of State following the reshuffle and expansion of the Union Council of Ministers carried out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Day after Union Cabinet reshuffle, newly-appointed ministers to meet JP Nadda 

All newly inducted inductees in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s council of ministers will meet the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Jagat Prakash Nadda at party headquarters on Thursday, informed party officials.

As many as 43 leaders took oath on Wednesday in the first Union Cabinet reshuffle and expansion after Prime Minister Modi returned to power for a second term in May 2019.

Some of the key figures inducted into the Union cabinet include Jyotiraditya Scindia, Bhupender Yadav, Sarbananda Sonowal and Pashupati Kumar Paras.

Seven women MPs took oath as union ministers in the expanded council of ministers.

They include Anupriya Patel, Shobha Karandlaje, Darshana Vikram Jardosh, Meenakshi Lekhi, Annapurna Devi, Pratima Bhoumik and Bharati Pravin Pawar.
