News broadcasters body deplores Sonia Gandhi’s suggestion of ban on media ads by govt

In the missive to PM Modi, the Congress President sought a ban on media advertisements for a period of 2 years – for all platforms including Print, Electronic and Digital media.

New Delhi: The News Broadcasters Association (NBA) on Tuesday strongly deplored the suggestion by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, for imposing a complete ban on media advertisements including Television, Print and online – by the Government and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for a period of two years.

The strong disapproval by Broadcasters Association comes after Sonia’s letter to Prime Minister, early in the day. In the missive to PM Modi, the Congress President sought a ban on media advertisements for a period of 2 years – for all platforms including Print, Electronic and Digital media.

The NBA termed the statement by Congress President as ‘highly demoralizing’ as it seeks to ‘crush’ the media at a time when the scribes are doing national duty and disseminating information about the pandemic at the cost of their own lives.

Apart from this, Congress President also suggested 4 other austerity measures to generate funds for fighting Covid-19 which included demand for suspension of Rs 20,000 crore Central Vista beautification project.
