New Delhi: With winters approaching, the Uttar Pradesh administration has swung into action to build ‘Rain Baseras’ (night shelters) in the entire state.

These night shelters, coming up across the length and breadth of state, will shield the downtrodden and underprivileged from chilling winters by providing them a roof.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has given clear directions to officials to build night shelters across the entire state in next 3 days, equipped with clean water and sanitation facilities. These rain baseras will have provision of security guards to ensure safe and secure environment for night shelter residents.

Rain Baseras will also be erected outside hospitals where patients’ attendants usually sleep under the sky.

Distribution of blankets and bonfire to those in Rain Baseras as well as pavement dwellers will also be done to help them fight the biting cold.

It may be noted that UP’s revenue department has already released funds for disbursal of blankets in every tehsil. A total of Rs 19.25 crore has been allotted, out of which Rs 5 lakh have been earmarked for blanket distribution in each tehsil while Rs 50,000/- for disbursal of other products.

Last year, UP CM had inspected night shelters in Varanasi and distributed blankets to the occupants amid biting cold wave in the region.
