No relief for jailed AAP leader Satyendra Jain, Delhi HC denies bail

The High Court, while rejecting the bail plea of Satyendra Jain, said that he is an influential person and there are chances that he could tamper with evidence.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader & former Delhi minister Satyendra Jain received yet another setback as the High Court dismissed his bail plea in the money laundering case.

Delhi High court’s refusal to give any relief to Jain comes on a day when it is slated to hear bail plea of another AAP veteran & former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.

The High Court, while rejecting the bail plea of Satyendra Jain, said that he is an influential person and there are chances that he could tamper with evidence.

Jain was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in May 2022 under PMLA. He is accused of laundering unaccounted money through 4 companies linked to him.

Along with Jain’s plea, the court also rejected petition of two other accused, said to be his associates. The name of those accused as Vaibhan Jain & Ankush Jain and both face charges of assisting Jain in concealing the proceeds of crime.

While dismissing the bail pleas, the High Court concurred with trial court’s observations and said there was no infirmity.

All three of them had appealed against the trail court’s order of last year.

Satyendra Jail also has cases lodged against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and accused of appropriating money more than his income. The agency filed a Rs 1.68 crore disporprotionate assets case against him.

The embattled AAP leader has been behind bars for long. He was Delhi’s health minister and resigned from his post on March 1, this year.
