New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation, three key petroleum sector projects in Bihar via video conferencing on Sunda. The projects, which will come at a cost of Rs 900 crore, include Durgapur-Banka section of the Paradip-Haldia-Durgapur Pipeline Augmentation Project and 2 LPG Bottling Plants in East Champaran and Banka each.

Speaking after the inauguration, PM Modi said, “A few years ago, when the special package for Bihar was announced, a lot of focus was on infrastructure. I am happy that I had the pleasure to dedicate the Durgapur-Banka section of the pipeline related to this.”

“The package for Bihar had 10 big projects related to petroleum and gas. A total of Rs 21,000 crore had to be spent on these projects. Today, this is 7th project where work has been completed,” PM Modi added.

The gas based industry and petro connectivity will not only add momentum for development in Bihar and Eastern India but will also create job opportunities.

PM Modi said that about 1.25 crore cylinders can be filled per year at these two bottling plants in Banka and East Champaran.

According to government, the LPG penetration in Bihar has exponentially increased to 76.9% now from 23.5% in 2014.

PM Modi also spoke about the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), under which free cooking gas connections are provided to poor families and has been hailed as one of the most successful programs of NDA Govt.

“7 states will be connected through 3,000 km gas pilpeline under Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Yojana,” said PM Modi.

These launches come at a time when the rural and farm economy is under severe stress due to Covid-19 pandemic.

PM Modi’s pat for Nitish, dig for Lalu

PM Modi also lauded Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his important contribution in taking Bihar forward on the path to progress.

“In the last 15 years, Bihar has shown that development happens with the right government, decisions and policies, and also reaches everyone,” PM Modi said.

“Bihar was plagued by mindset where road projects were sneered at with query what is it worth for those without vehicles,” PM Modi said, making a veiled jibe at previous regimes.

“There was a time when road connectivity, internet connectivity were not discussed. Being a landlocked state, Bihar faced many challenges. Nitish Kumar has played a big role in our aim towards a New India, New Bihar,” said PM Modi.
