PM Modi lambasts Opposition over I.N.D.I.A name, says ‘Indian Mujahideen & PFI’ have it too’

For the unversed, PFI is an extremist outfit charged with several instances of fuelling & inciting communal hatred and was recently banned by the government, for anti-state activities. Indian Mujahideen is a well-known terror outfit.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the Opposition parties over its new ‘name & branding’ to challenge the ruling BJP dispensation, in the run-up to series of Assembly elections this year and Parliamentary elections, slated for next year.

At the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, PM Modi sought to draw parallel between Opposition’s I.N.D.I.A. with radical & extremist outfits like ‘Indian Mujahideen’ and Popular Front of India (PFI).

Prime Minister said, “Indian Mujahideen & Popular Front of India have also ‘INDIA’ in their name.”

Just by changing or rechristening onself, one can’t change its character, the Prime Minister is understood to have said at the meeting.

For the unversed, PFI is an extremist outfit charged with several instances of fuelling & inciting communal hatred and was recently banned by the government, for anti-state activities. Indian Mujahideen is a well-known terror outfit.

BJP I-T cell chief Amit Malviya took to Twitter and further elaborated govenrment’s stand on Opposition’s new identity – INDIA.

He called the Opposition grouping as coming together of corrupt & tainted and ‘just by changing the name, their character can’t be changed’.

“Opposition calling themselves I.N.D.I.A. doesn’t make any credible,” he said.

Notably, the Opposition parties, in Bengaluru meet, named their alliance
Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). After the Manipur horror video surfaced, it mounted an all out attack on the government and demanded to sack the Chief Minister for deep holes in governance.

The sharp counter by Prime Minister comes on back of 24 Opposition parties closing ranks against BJP-led NDA govt and cornering the latter on range of issues ranging from Manipur horror to alleged dismantling of constitutional institutions to issues related with common man.
