PM Modi to launch property cards under SVAMITVA scheme, to cover 6.62 villages in 4 years

The SVAMITVA scheme will allow 1 lakh property holders to download their Property Cards through SMS sent on their mobile phones while physical copy would also be distributed respective state governments.

New Delhi: Launching yet another move to transform and empower rural India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch physical distribution of property cards under SVAMITVA Scheme on October 11, via video link.

The SVAMITVA scheme will provide ‘record of rights’ to village household owners in rural areas.

The SVAMITVA scheme will allow 1 lakh property holders to download their Property Cards through SMS sent on their mobile phones while physical copy would also be distributed respective state governments.

At the outset, more than 763 villages across 6 states are likely to reap the benefits of this scheme, out of which 346 are from Uttar Pradesh, 221 from Haryana, 100 from Maharashtra, 44 from Madhya Pradesh, 50 from Uttarakhand and 2 from Karnataka. Beneficiaries from all these states except Maharashtra will get Property Cards in a day.

The move will greatly enhance famer’s negotiating capability while applying for loans. They can use property cards as a financial asset for taking loans and other financial benefits. Also, for the first time, such a large-scale exercise involving the most modern means of technology is being carried out to benefit millions of rural property owners.

After the scheme launch, PM Modi will also interact with some of the beneficiarie. The programme will commence from 11 AM.

SVAMITVA is a Central Sector Scheme of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, which was launched by the Prime Minister on National Panchayati Raj Day, 24th April 2020.

The Scheme will be implemented across the country in various phases, with the deadline for covering whole landmass by 2024. About 1 lakh villages in the States of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Karnataka, and few border villages of Punjab & Rajasthanare being covered in Pilot phase (2020-21).

For drawing benefits under the scheme, drone survey of the rural areas will be done. These 6 states have finalized the digital property card format and villages to be covered for drone-based survey.
