New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday morning conducted multiple raids in Punjab in connection with an alleged illegal sand mining case.

As per reports, The federal agency searched the residence and office premises of the suspects that including the sand mafia Bhupinder Singh Honey. ED official had also recorded the statement of those who were present at the house of Honey.

The raid has raised many political questions as this comes just a month before the voting for the 2022 assembly elections in Punjab but the agency initially refused to connect any political links in the case and has said that they will share further details after the raids are completed.

Who is alleged Sand mafia Bhupinder Singh Honey?

Alleged Sand mafia Bhupinder Singh Honey is reportedly a relative of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who had allegedly floated a firm named Punjab Realtors to get sand mining contracts.

In the poll-bound state Punjab, opposition political parties have been attacking the Congress government for its alleged links with the Sand mafia. Delhi CM Kejriwal attacked Channi for not doing anything to stop it.

The Enforcement Directorate has suspected that black money was invested in getting a contract for the sand mine and the company floated is of very small scale and unlikely to get a contract worth crores.
