Kisan Mahapanchayat: Rahul Gandhi shares old picture of farmers protest

UP Assembly polls are scheduled to take place early next year. In 2017, the BJP won a landslide victory winning 312 Assembly seats.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday shared a picture of ‘Farmers protest’ where a huge crowd can bee seen.

However, Rahul Gandhi posted in the support of protesting farmers, but the picture of the farmers used was quite old.

This Tweet comes a day after,  Kisan Mahapanchayat was held in Muzzafarnagar on Sunday against three farm laws by the Centre and declared that they will campaign against BJP in the upcoming assembly elections. The Mahapanchayat witnessed participation from various political parties.

The picture is from February where thousands of farmers attended the Kisan Panchayat in Shamli district in western Uttar Pradesh.

The image was used by “The Tribune” on Feb 6th and the caption read-‘Farmers attend a Kisan Panchayat’ at Shamli in UP.’

This was the fourth major farmers’ meeting in western UP after Muzaffarnagar, Mathura and Baghpat.

The party secured a 39.67 per cent vote share in the elections for 403-member Assembly. Samajwadi Party (SP) bagged 47 seats, BSP won 19 while Congress could manage to win only seven seats.
