Rahul, Priyanka meet Hathras victim’s family; say will fight for justice

After meeting the family, Rahul Gandhi said “no force can silence us,” while Priyanka said, “Wherever something wrong happens, we will be there to ensure justice is served. No one can stop us.”

Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi today visited Hathras to meet family member of 19-year-old victim, who was allegedly gangraped and murdered last month and subsequently cremated in the dead of night without consent of family, creating outrage and question mark over the conduct of Uttar Pradesh police.

After meeting the family, Rahul Gandhi said “no force can silence us,” while Priyanka said, “Wherever something wrong happens, we will be there to ensure justice is served. No one can stop us.”

Their meeting lasted for about 30 minutes. After meeting the grieving family, Rahul told mediapersons, “I stand with the family. It is the responsibility of the state government to ensure their safety.”

“The family couldn’t see their daughter for the one last time. UP CM Yogi Adityanath should understand his responsibility. Till the time justice is delivered, we’ll continue this fight,” Priyanka said.

Their visit however was marred in controversy as they got into a dramatic stand-off with police at Delhi-UP border. This was second attempt by Gandhis to reach Hathras to meet the family.
