Rajasthan: Communal tension in Jaipur after youth dead in head-on bike collision

A video of the near fatal head-on- collision between the bikers was captured on CCTV camera. As is seen in the video, the motorcycles are seen coming from opposite direction and hitting against each other.

New Delhi: An 18-year-old biker died in Jaipur on Saturday, after hitting another bike in a head-on collision. The incident which could have been inadvertent mishap among the bikers coming from opposite direction, led to a communal flare-up as the two riders belonged to two different religions.

A video of the near fatal head-on- collision between the bikers was captured on CCTV camera. As is seen in the video, the motorcycles are seen coming from opposite direction and hitting against each other.

The victim has been identified as Iqbal. He got injured in the accident and was subsequently to Sawai Man Singh hospital, where he succumbed to injuries today morning.

Iqbal’s relatives claimed that he was murdered by the youths of other community. They claimed that Iqbal was hit on his by iron dead, which led to his death.

The CCTV footage also shows a group of youth swooping down on a biker and slapping him. Some reports claimed that Iqbal was thrashed by locals after his bike collided with a Hindu youth.

The issue took a communal turn today morning as many people from two communities assembled at the spot and shouted slogans against each other. Police teams were rushed to the spot to keep the situation under control.

People of the Muslim community also blocked the road in Subhash Chow police station area. Large posse of policemen was deployed in the area to diffuse the situation.

A senior police official speaking to newsmen confirmed that they mollified the agitated crowd and convinced them that this wasn’t a communal issue. He also appealed to all groups to not give a communal colour to death of Iqbal.
