Religious conversion racket busted in UP: 2 nabbed for converting deaf & mute children in Noida

New Delhi: In a major operation, the Uttar Pradesh ATS has arrested 2 men involved in forceful religious conversion in the state. According to police, the duo ran a religious conversion racket in Noida and targeted mainly unemployed youth, handicapped people, mostly hearing and speech impaired children and forced them to change their religion.

The two accused have been identified as Umar Gautam and Mufti Qazi Jehangir. They were arrested from the Jamia Nagar area in Delhi.

During interrogation, they revealed that they would focus on women, children and disabled and convert about 250-300 people every year.

Prashant Kumar, Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order), said that the arrested were running a conversion racket. He said that around 1,500 children at a deaf and dumb school in Noida embraced Islam, adding that thousands of such cases have been reported across the state.

Prashant Kumar said that people from economically weaker sections were lured to convert their religion. He also said that that many women have been forced to change their religion and were married off, so that they couldn’t revert back even if they want.
