RSS activist who accused Rahul Gandhi of defamatory speech sends Rs 1500 to him on court’s order

New Delhi: After getting an order from the Bhiwanid court, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh activist Rajesh Kunte send Rs 1500 by money order to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case against him. The money order reached Rahul Gandhi’s Delhi office, informed Ganesh Dhargalkar on Friday, Kunte’s lawyer.

In his criminal defamation case with the support of Kunbi Sena chief Vishwanath Patil, Kunte alleged that Rahul Gandhi blamed the RSS for the assassination of Mahatama Gandhi in his speech in March 2014.

Earlier in March, Kunte seek the adjournment of the matter from the court. The court accepted his appeal but ordered him to pay Rs 500 to Gandhi.

Later on April 21, the activist again requested the court to put off the hearing. However, Judicial magistrate Dr JV Paliwal decided to impose a fine of Rs 1,000 on Kunte.

Notably, Kunte did not pay the fine of Rs 500 and sought the second adjournment and agreed to pay both amounts.

In the beginning, Gandhi tried to get quash the case from the Bombay high court followed by the Supreme Court. But, he decided to fight against Kunte later.

Notably, defamation is a punishable act and the convicted person will be awarded two years of jail term and a fine.

Talking about the case, Narayan Iyer, appearing for Rahul Gandhi in the trial court, said, ”We hope the case will proceed on a daily basis according to the court order. The next hearing will be held on May 10. The Bhiwandi court asked the complainant to present evidence and witnesses on the same day.”
