Saharanpur: Kabbadi players served with food kept in toilet at sports camp, Sport Officer suspended [WATCH]

Taking quick action after a massive social media outrage, the UP government has suspended the sports officer and a probe has been ordered

New Delhi: Shocking pictures and videos from a sports camp in Saharanpur city of Uttar Pradesh recently surfaced online, followed by a major controversy. In the viral pics and clips, nearly 200 Kabbadi players were served the food items kept inside a toilet in Saharanpur Stadium.

The incident took place during a 3-day state-level U-17 girls’ Kabaddi tournament which reportedly commenced on September 16.

In the now-viral pictures and videos, a container of cooked rice can be seen on the floor of a toilet inside the stadium, while some leftover puris can also be seen lying on a piece of paper on the floor.

Apart from rice and bread, some other utensils and raw edible items can also be seen placed on the floor of the toilet. In the video, players can be seen filling their plates with cooked rice inside the restroom only.

A player participating in the camp said, “The cooked rice from the pot was taken out in a big plate and placed on the floor of the toilet. Near the rice plate were the ‘puris’ left on a piece of paper. Then the same rice was served to the players at lunch.”

The Sports Officer Animesh Saxena has dismissed these allegations as ‘baseless’ as he said, “The food served to the players here is of good quality. A brick stove is made in a traditional way near the swimming pool and rice, pulses and vegetables are cooked on them in big pots,” he said.

“There was a shortage of space and the food was cooked near the stadium pool”, he added.

Meanwhile, taking quick action after a massive social media outrage, the UP government has suspended sports officer Animesh Saxena and a probe has been ordered.
