Despite repeated advisories by government and social awareness spread by media, this footage from Muzaffarnagar mandi shows – how scant regard people have for the social distancing. Hundreds of people can be seen crowding the market and jostling each other for purchasing the essential goods.

However, question arises over the role of law enforcement agencies. Why they can’t be vigilant enough to ensure social distancing here. Such gathering/assembling is not a threat to their lives but also to others.

However, Muzzafarnagar is not alone. Meerut is another city, where people can be seen openly flouting lockdown norms in a viral video, tweeted by journalist Rohit Sardana. Remember, Meerut was among the 15 hotspot districts announced by Yogi govt sometime back.

The journalist also tweeted a video of Meerut Police, which said that incident was taken note of and violators were acted upon.
