New Delhi: Amid the stormy scenes in Parliament over the recent security breach in Lok Sabha, a Trinamool Congress MP stirred a fresh row by doing a mimicry of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhad inside the complex.

While TMC lawmaker made a mockery of Vice President, many of the Opposition members from both the Houses laughed and clapped.

A video of the incident was shared by the News agency.

In other videos, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen filming the mimicry & mockery by TMC lawmaker.

In the video clip that went viral, Kalyan Banerjee could be heard saying, “I am a straight spine and I am very tall”. While the TMC lawmaker lampooned the Vice-President with his theatrics, those MPs from the opposition cheered and applauded his gesture with roaring laughter.

The insulting gesture by the TMC Parliamentarian has drawn wrath of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as couple of saffron party leaders took to X and lambasted him for belittling the chair & position of the Vice-President.

BJP hit out at TMC MP and said that this marked a ‘new low in Parliamentary democracy’.

“The Vice President of the country and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha is insulted by Rahul Gandhi and members of the arrogant alliance in the Parliament House complex. Shameful,” the BJP posted on X along.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra also shared the mimicry video on his X handle and slammed Rahul Gandhi for ‘tacit support’ to mockery of country’s vice-president.

“Nation will remember this insult to chair,”, he tweeted.

Opposition protest against govt action

Dhankhar denounces mimicking

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar took exception to the ‘ridiculous & unacceptable’ behavior by the TMC lawmaker.

Mr Dhankhar said, “Office of Chairman, Rajya Sabha and Office of Speaker is very different. Political parties will have their cross currents, they will have exchanges, but imagine a senior leader of your party, video graphing another member of another party.”

“Mimicry of the Chairman, mimicry of Speaker. How ridiculous, how shameful, how unacceptable,” he added.
