Top Cong leader questions CWC’s new team, says party reneged on Udaipur declaration

Questioning the ‘new structure & character’ of CWC, Shastri said that this is gross violation of the resolutions adopted by the party at Udaipur Declaration, last year.

New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, effecting a rejig in Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Sunday, inducted a couple of new faces with an aim to achieve a healthy mix of old and new, seasoned & young turks while also striking a regional balance to make the party battle-ready for host of Assembly elections later this year and eventually Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

However, the reconstitution of CWC has been questioned by Anil K Shastri, a veteran Congress leader & also son of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

Questioning the ‘new structure & character’ of CWC, Shastri said that this is gross violation of the resolutions adopted by the party at Udaipur Declaration, last year.

He said that only 3 young leaders, under the age of 50 years, have been inducted in CWC in contrast to Udaipur Declaration which called for 50-50% mix of old & new leaders.

He further claimed that minorities haven’t found adequate representation in the CWC as only 5 out of 80 members are from the minority community.

Listing the inadequacies of new CWC team, he also made an appeal to party President Mallikarjun Kharge to make amends for the same.

Congress Working Committee (CWC) is party’s top-decision making body. The new & noted entrants which garnered spotlight over the weekend were Sachin Pilot, Shashi Tharoo, Deepa Das Munshi & Syed Naseer Hussain.
