UP becomes No 1 state in job creation under Prime Minister Employment Generation Program

Uttar Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board has secured the first position in the country helping set up micro industries in the state under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Program (PMEGP).

New Delhi: Imbibing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of ‘Opportunities in disaster’, Uttar Pradesh government has set another record and has become number one in implementation of PM Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) during the year ended March 2021.

Uttar Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board, District Industries Centres and Khadi and Village Industries Commission has achieved the target of 127 percent in the 2020-21. It received Rs 136 crore from the Government of India exceeding the target by about Rs 60 crore to be distributed as a grant to entrepreneurs.

Uttar Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board has secured the first position in the country helping set up micro industries in the state under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Program (PMEGP). Under this, in the current financial year 2020-2021, the Board had set a target of employing 20576 people by setting up 2572 units with a margin money of Rs 7716.10 lakh, against which as many as 4143 units were set up with a margin money of Rs.13636.16 lakh giviing employment to 43,118 people, which is 177 percent of the target.

Similarly, DIC utilized the margin money to the tune of Rs 14039.27 lakh against the target of Rs 10287 lakh, 136 percent of the target.

167 per cent more investment in one year

Uttar Pradesh has gone ahead in taking advantage of the scheme. With about the figures, in the year 2019-2020, 2363 units were established using a margin money of Rs 8175.04 lakh. At the same time, in the year 2020-2021, 4139 units have been established from the margin money of Rs 13626.26 lakh, which clearly shows the intention of the government as 167 percent more investment has been made in the state in a single year.

In addition, a Capital investment of Rs 550 crore was made by Uttar Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board through banks under PMEGP in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh. This has benefited the rural entrepreneurs and created a large number of jobs locally.
