New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took to Twitter to announce that he has isolated himself after some officials of his office tested Covid positive.

“Some officers in my office have been infected with Corona. These officers have been in contact with me, so I have isolated myself as a precaution and am starting all the work virtually,” Adityanath said in a tweet in Hindi.

About Uttar Pradesh, the Health Secretary said that on average 89 cases a day were reported in the state, but now it has increased to 10,000. “The average daily RT-PCR tests are around 45 to 44 per cent, so they also need to be ramped up. The weekly positivity is 4.84 per cent but it is showing a rising trend,” he said.

UP records 18,000 cases in 24 hrs, biggest surge in Corona numbers

The development comes on a day when Uttar Pradesh recorded highest-ever single-day spike of 18,021 COVID-19 cases along with 85 deaths.

“In the past 24 hours, 18,021 fresh cases were reported while 3,474 people were discharged in this period. There are 95,980 active cases while 6,18,293 were treated and discharged. The state reported a total of 9,309 deaths till now since the start of the pandemic,” Additional Chief Secretary of Health, Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters.

Overall number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 7,23,582, with the active caseload being at 95,980. The cumulative fatalities stand at 9,309.
