UP govt tightens screws on don Mukhtar Ansari, non-bailable arrest warrant issued against wife & her brothers

Arrest warrant against Mukhtar Ansari’s wife and her brothers: Ghazipur Police had recently booked them under Gangster Act for grabbing confiscated land, embezzlement and other criminal activities.

New Delhi: Tightening the screws further on the mafia don Mukhtar Ansari, the Uttar Pradesh government today issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against his wife Afsha Ansari and her brothers. They will be arrested by the UP police anytime now.

Days back, the Ghazipur Police had booked Ansari’s wife Afsha Ansari and her brothers — Sharjil Raja and Anwar Shehjad under the Gangster Act for allegedly grabbing confiscated land, embezzlement and other criminal activities.

In last few days, the Yogi government has turned on the heat on dreaded gangsters in the state. Illegal property worth hundreds of crores of rupees, belonging to dons, have either been confiscated or demolished by the state government in recent weeks.

The Lucknow Police has declared a reward of Rs 25,000 each on the two sons of Bahujan Samaj Party MLA and mafia don Mukhtar Ansari — Abbas Ansari and Umar Ansari. Both the brothers are wanted in cases of illegal land grab.

Cases were registered against Abbas and Umar in connection with land grabbing and illegal construction. Two buildings belonging to Abbas Ansari in the posh Dalibagh area had recently been demolished by the state government on August 27.

Speaing on the crackdown against gangsters, a senior police officer said, “The idea was to break the economic backbone of the mafia and we have done it in cases of both, Mukhtar Ansari and also Ateeq Ahmad.”

Both were among the biggest don in the state but now staying behind bars.

Mukhtar Ansari is presently lodged in Ropar jail in Punjab while Ateeq Ahmad is in Sabarmati central jail in Ahmedabad.
