New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh got a major relief in regard to the civic polls as the Supreme Court on Wednesday put a stay on High Court order, to conduct UP local body bolls without OBC reservation.

In a statement, A K Sharma said that the government is committed to providing justice to the weaker sections, as mandated by the Constitution. He added that PM Modi and CM Yogi’s basic mantra is ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’.

He said that the state government gave reservation to OBC class in the last notification also and reiterated that it was committed to the welfare of OBC community.

Taking a shot at the opposition, Minister AK Sharma said that those spreading lies & selling propaganda to defame the government have been defeated today.

“Those with vested interests were lobbying hard to hold elections without any reservation for backwards, weaker sections & Dalits. Today, they have been exposed,” he further added.

Allahabad High Court had ordered the state government to conduct urban local body elections without the OBC reservations, following which Yogi government had moved SC on December 29. On January 4, the Apex Court put a stay on HC’s order and allowed the polls with OBC reservation.
