Uttar Pradesh breaches 5.50 crore vaccine mark, leads all other states in inoculation drive

With the supply of vaccine having escalated after the Centre announced the ‘Vaccination for All’ drive, the state is in a position to further scale up the operations to a large extent.

New Delhi: Emerging successful in the fight against Covid-19, the state of Uttar Pradesh on August 11, crossed a significant landmark with more than 5.50 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines administered in the state so far.

The most populous state has so far given the ‘Shots of Life’ to more than 5,51,27,657 people. During the course of the last 24 hours, more than 5.23 lakh people were inoculated.

The Uttar Pradesh government is keeping on their toes to get the majority of the population inoculated. As the second wave of the novel coronavirus has died down in the State, the demand to get vaccinated remains high as it is the only option to fight out the invisible enemy.

With the supply of vaccine having escalated after the Centre announced the ‘Vaccination for All’ drive, the state is in a position to further scale up the operations to a large extent.

On the contrary, Maharashtra lags behind with 4.75 crore doses delivered so far. The vaccination numbers in Rajasthan stand at 3.36 crore, West bengal has vaccinated around 3.57 crore people, in Tamil Nadu only 2.57 crore vaccine doses have been given and Kerala has vaccinated only 2.22 crore of its population.

vaccination drive, covid vaccine

The state’s vaccination success can be attributed to numerous factors. After an awareness campaign launched during May-June to address vaccine hesitancy in the rural districts, people are now willing to get vaccinated.

Aggressive Vaccination is an integral pillar of the comprehensive strategy of the Uttar Pradesh Government for containment and management of the pandemic, along with T3 and adherence to COVID-19-Appropriate Behaviour.

UP records 27 positive cases out of 2.39 lakh samples tested

Eliminating the deadly second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, out of the 2,39,909 samples tested in the last 24 hours, merely 27 samples tested positive for the Covid-19 infection and as a result the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) has slumped to 0.01 percent in Uttar Pradesh, lower than the lowest post first wave of the pandemic.

In the same period, another 63 patients also recovered from the infection. The Active Caseload in the most populous state has been reduced to just 505 from a high of 3,10,783 in April pushing the Recovery Rate up to a remarkable 98.6 percent, while the percentage of active cases as against the total confirmed cases is just 0 per cent

Aggressive Testing and Vaccination continues in UP

Ramping up of daily testing to detect the virus has helped in the fight against the second wave. True to the spirit of the ‘trace, test, and treat’ policy, with as many as 6,81,37,752 tested, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a leader in Covid Testing. Whereas, other states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal have decreased testing even after greater surge in fresh covid cases.

Despite its large population density, Uttar Pradesh is setting new daily records in vaccination while states like Punjab, Rajasthan and Chandigarh amongst others have ‘underutilized’ doses of Covid-19 vaccine that have been supplied to them.
