Uttar Pradesh’s 1st paperless Budget: Focus on Infra, farmers; here are 10 key announcements

New Delhi: Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government presented the first paperless Budget in the Legislative Assembly on Monday.

Reading out the budget speech from his laptop, UP Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said the target was to make Uttar Pradesh “Aatmanirbhar”.

The state govt presented ₹5,50,270.78 crore budget for 2021-22, its largest ever, to make the state ‘atmanirbhar’ or self-reliant. Earlier the budget was 5.12 lakh crore but this year it has increased up to Rs 38,000 crore.

Rs 5.5 lakh crore Budget, highest ever for the state

1) For the proposed 594-km long Ganga Expressway, Yogi government has allocated Rs 7,200 crore. The expressway will pass through 12 districts including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahar, Amroha, Sambhal and others.

2) Rs 870 crore to Purvanchal Expressway and Rs 1,492 crore to Bundelkhand Expressway. Yogi govt plans to open Purvanchal Expressway by April this year.

3) To improve connectivity and boost tourism in the state, Rs 2,100 crore has been allocated for airports. Rs 2,000 crore has been allocated for the international airport in Jewar and for the development and expansion of 2 smaller airports in Chitrakoot and Sonbhadra districts of the state.

4) Rs 101 crore has been earmarked for the under-construction airport in Ayodhya which will be named Maryada Purushottam Shriram Airport.

5) Rs 3,100 crore has been allocated for farmers’ pension and Rs 148 crore to cow shelters in the state’s budget 2021-22

6) For the farmers, the government announced that 400 crores will be provided for cheaper loans.

7) Under various social welfare programs, Rs 10,029 crore allocated for the housing scheme, Rs 2,200 crore for Amrit Yojna, Rs 2,000 crore for Smart City project, Rs 1,000 crore for Mukhya Mantri Samagra Sampada Vikas Yojna, Rs 7,000 crore for PM Awas Gramin, Rs 5,000 crore for PM Sadak Yojna

8) An allocation of Rs 15,000 crore has been made for Har Ghar Jal scheme.

9) The government also announced that 9 medical colleges will be built and allocated ₹1950 crore for the same. Atal residential schools will also be opened in all mandals.

10) The government also announced new schemes for women and child welfare allocating 100 crore for Saksham Suposhan Yojna. Malnourished children (6 months to 5-year old) and teenage girls (11 to 14-year-old) who are not enrolled in school will be provided nutritious food under the scheme.

UP is 1st state to present paperless Budget

Uttar Pradesh will be the first state in the country to table a paperless budget. Thie year’s budget is the 5th budget of Yogi Adityanath government in the state. State Finance Minister Suresh Khanna presented the budget at 11 am today.

All members of the State Legislature were provided with iPads to view the budget highlights which will also be available on two big screens put up in the House.

On February 16, COVID-19 tests of all MLAs and MLCs were conducted in view of the pandemic.
