New Delhi: The temple town of Kashi got a major facelift today with the opening of Kashi Vishwanath Dham, as it would devotees to take a holy dip in the river Ganga and then straightaway head to the temple for paying obeisance to Lord Shiva.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kashi Vishwanath corridor on Monday, dedicated to the Kashi temple. Addressing the gathering after the inaugural event, PM Modi said that Kashi Vishwanath Dham will give a decisive direction to India and herald a bright future.

Recalling the valour and heroic acts of former Indian warriors, PM Modi said that in the past, many tyrants tried to wipe out the holy town but at the end, it was they who perished while the holy town retained its piousness.

“Tyrants tried to destroy Varanasi but it stood firmly even as Sultanates rose and fell. In our country, if Aurangzeb came, then Shivaji also rose,” PM Modi told the gathering, attended by many Hindu seers & saints apart from top BJP leaders.

After offering prayers at the Kashi temple, PM Modi also expressed gratitude to the labourers & artisans who worked day & night for raising the opulent and grandiose complex. PM Modi also took this opportunity for showering them with flower petals and expressed gratitude for unrestrained work even during Covid-19.

With the inauguration of Kashi Vishwanath corridor, the temple premises has witnessed significant enhancement in its area & appeal. Till now, the temple was spread around 3,000 square feet but now encompasses 5 lakh square feet. Now, about 50,000 – 70,000 devotees can visit the temple at a time and pray to the Almighty together.

In his address, PM Modi also underlined the need for people’s commitment to three facts that would herald a positive change for the nation. He asked all to commit themselves towards three resolutions – ‘Swachhta’, ‘Srijan’ & ‘aatmanirbharta’.
