Who is Bhajan Lal Sharma, the first-time MLA chosen as Rajasthan’s new Chief Minister

Bhajan Lal Sharma is a PG graduate as per his election affidavit. His total declared assets stands at Rs 1.5 crore, out of which Rs 1 crore is immovable.

New Delhi: Ending days of guessing game & wide speculations, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced that first time legislator Bhajan Lal Sharma will be the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan.

The decision was taken at the party’s legislature meeting held today under the supervision of 3 Central observers including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Who is Bhajan Lal Sharma?

Bhajan Lal Sharma, the first time legislator may be marking his debut in governance but has a strong & sturdy record in holding party position. He has served as BJP general secretary for record four times.

He represents the Sanganer assembly constituency. He won the seat by defeating Congress rival Pushpendra Bhardwaj by a margin of over 48,000 votes.

CM-designate, a surprise pick

The announcement of CM-designate comes more than a week after election results. The party remained tight-lipped over the delay but Bhajan Lal Sharma is yet another surprise pick for the top post, much like Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh. Some names who emerged as front-runners for the post included Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Arjun Meghwal and Ashwini Vaishnaw but lastly, none of them made the cut and three new names were finalized for the top post.

The CM-designate has been a staunch party worker and has long association with the saffron ideology. He was a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of BJP.

Apart from Bhajan Lal, the two Deputy Chief Ministers have been selected who are Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa.
