The designer himself, as well as the drinkware company, announced their collaboration on their official social media pages. Starbucks took to Twitter announcing Sabyasachi + Starbucks limited-edition collection which is all set to hit the stores from April 12.

Initially, Starbucks India tweeted, “There’s something brewing between Starbucks and Sabyasachi. It’s exclusive! It’s exhilarating! And it’s coming soon to a store near you. Stay tuned! #StarbucksAndSabyasachi.”

However, things did not turn out well as soon as the announcement was made. Several questions were raised regarding the collaboration of the two majors in their own fields. Besides, a range of criticisms followed the post questioning if the Starbucks is set to get more expensive, or would it taste any different with a designer label on the cup.

Here are some comments dropped by the Twitteratis:

However, the designer today announced that the collaboration with Starbucks is to support ‘Educate Girls’ which is a non-profit organisation that aims in providing education for girls in rural areas of India. Sharing a post, the official Instagram page of Sabyasachi captioned, “Presenting the Sabyasachi + Starbucks @starbucksindia limited edition collection. Tata Starbucks and Sabyasachi have collaborated to support ‘Educate Girls’ —a non-profit organization that mobilises communities to promote education for girls in India’s rural areas. @educategirlsngo. His last year’s collaboration with H&M also experienced some flak. Responding to all such negative comments and criticism the designer mentioned, “I’ve done many collaborations and each one is diverse, but what I try to do with every collaboration is further the India story, take it forward; if I cannot have an Indian narrative, I don’t want to do it. With H&M it was such a proud moment, it’s like a lifetime achievement award when it comes to recognition of one’s work. It’s only when your label has a strong voice that it can traverse the mind space of many countries.”
