
New Delhi: Ahead of Republic Day, e-commerce giant Amazon faced irk from a section of Indian social media users, after it was learned that some products on its website were sold in packaging depicting Indian tricolor.
Twitter users posted various products including coffee mugs, key chains, t-shirts, etc carrying the national flag and called for a boycott of the multinational e-tailer under the trend #Amazon_Insults_National_Flag.
Netizens also said that apart from disrespecting the Indian flag, the American multinational violated the Flag Code of India, 2002.

E-commerce websites like Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, etc. have been selling these sensitive items in large numbers on 26th January by making t-shirts, keychains etc in the colours of the Indian national flag.

For the unversed, the Flag Code Of India, 2002 states that the Indian flag shall not be used as part of a costume or uniform of any description. It shall not be embroidered or printed upon cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins or boxes, it further states.
