Good Friday 2021: History, Significance, rare and interesting facts about Jesus Christ’s crucifixion

Good Friday was the day when Christ was arrested and executed. But it is also considered holy because Jesus gave his life as a sacrifice while suffering for the sins of the people.

New Delhi: Every year, the Friday before Easter is observed as Good Friday, and this time it’s on 2nd April. Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after Paschal Full Moon according to the Church’s lunar calendar. This year Easter is on April 4th.

Christians commemorate Jesus’ crucifixion on this day. For Christians all over the world it is a day of grief, penance and fasting. For the same reason this day is also known as Black Friday. Good Friday aka Holy Friday also marks the end of Lent, a 40-day fasting period for the Christians.

The History Behind It

Good Friday was the day when Christ was arrested and executed. But it is also considered holy because Jesus gave his life as a sacrifice while suffering for the sins of the people. Jesus sacrificed himself due to his love for everyone. Because of this gesture humanity got a fresh start as all their sins were dismissed. According to some experts crucifixion took place around AD 30 or AD 33.

Even after being such a bad and dark day in the history of Christians, why it is known as ‘Good Friday’? Some people believe that the term came from the words God’s Friday. While, some people believe that ‘Good’ stands for Holy and that is why the day is also known as Holy Friday.

Significance

According to Bible, Jesus Christ was crucified on Good Friday but the son of God resurrected on the Easter. This ultimately signifies that good always wins and also that Jesus loved everyone that’s why he went through so much suffering,
