Happy Periods Day: DCPCR launches #abpatachalnedo campaign to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene

The digital campaign celebrates the idea of ‘Happy Menstruation’ by conducting various activities and encouraging ideas to uplift the taboo associated with menstruation under the hashtag- #AbPataChalneDo.

New Delhi: Delhi Commission For Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) launched a digital campaign #abpatachalnedo to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene & break the taboos surrounding periods. 5th February is being celebrated as “Happy Periods Day” & a series of events have been organised to encourage people to talk about periods.

“Digital Campaign ‘Ab Pata Chal Jaane Do’ to shed the ‘guilt and ‘shame’ associated with menstruation , causing trauma, ignored health issu es and misdiagnosis for girls. Launched in collaboration with Sachhi Saheli, an NGO working on gender issues, the campaign aims to raise awareness on menstr uation, break stereotypes and promote menstrual hygiene.”

“Several Ministers and MLAs are joining the cause, writing about periods” and normalising a conversation that is otherwise considered taboo. Hon’ble Minister WCD, Govt of NCT, Rajendra Pal Gautam said, ”We must make a collective commitment to break the taboo associated with menstruation. Access to reliable information about menstrual health is imperative for everyone’s health and life.”

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also commended the #AbPataChalneDo initiative launched by DCPCR to break stereotypes associated with menstruation and promote menstrual hygiene.
