How to rock an Indian wedding with your outfit as a guest: Male edition

Not wearing accessories or wearing the wrong accessories: Your look will be incomplete without matching accessories.

New Delhi: Attending a traditional Indian wedding? Wondering what outfits are appropriate for guests? Weddings are all about shine and sparkle, but not for men. So, stop choosing your boring shirt and pant set over and over again, because we have listed some awesome outfits for men that can never go wrong.

What to avoid:

a) Avoid wearing clothes that are too shiny.

b) Bad fit: A good fit is crucial. No matter how expensive your clothes are, if they don’t fit perfectly, they won’t look good on you. Make sure your fit is perfect.

c) Not wearing accessories or wearing the wrong accessories: Your look will be incomplete without matching accessories.

d) Experimenting with hair and beard: Don’t go to the salon one or two days before the wedding. It takes 8-10 days to set the look, and you’ll look weird on the wedding day.

e) Avoid fixed pocket squares, jackets with excessive piping, and jackets with big curve necks or chunky work.

What to wear:

1. Kurta pyjama with dupatta:

Kurta pyjamas are never out of fashion. Make them more stylish by borrowing a pretty printed broad dupatta from your mom or sister and styling it with your kurta pyjama or achkan. Complete the look with a nice watch and Mojaris.

Tip: Avoid readymade attached dupatta kurtas.

2. Nehru jacket with kurta:

A plain Nehru jacket with a plain kurta looks eye-catching. Add a bright-colored pocket square and a brooch, and wear a nice gold watch.

Tip: The kurta and jacket should not be the same color. Replace simple buttons on the jacket with golden, copper, or silver buttons.

3. Three-piece suit:

Three-piece suits look classy. Just add accessories like a tie, tie pin, pocket square, and cufflinks, and you are wedding-ready.

Tip: The tie pin and cufflinks should be the same color.

4. Jodhpuri suit:

Nothing is classier than a Jodhpuri Suit. You can style this suit in three ways: 1) Plain basic suit with fancy buttons and a bright pocket square, 2) Velvet bandh gala with solid pants, 3) One-sided embroidery.

5. Tuxedo:

Tuxedos are very common in India these days. Make sure the lapel is a bit shiny and wear a tuxedo shirt. You can also complete your look with a nice watch.

Tip: The bow should be appropriately big and have a matte finish, not small and shiny.

6. Achkan:

Achkan, also known as bagalbandhis, is always in fashion. It looks classy when worn with fancy buttons, bright pocket squares, a brooch, and formal shoes.

7. Chikankari kurtas:

Chikankari kurtas look elegant. Get a nice chikankari fabric and have it stitched with churidar pants. For a day wedding, try bright colors or pastel colors like pink, baby blue, mint, peach, etc.

8. Florals:

Florals look eye-catching for a day wedding. Go for floral prints without hesitation, such as floral jackets, bandh gala, or kurta. Keep accessories subtle with basic brown or black watches.

You can save money by using old clothes from your home, such as your dad’s or brother’s. Ask your tailor to fit them according to your size and replace old buttons with new fancy buttons and pocket squares. You can style them by simply adding accessories.
