New Delhi: People across Maharashtra, and especially Mumbaikars are observing August 23 as the World Vada Pav Day, owing to the most popular street food delicacy of the state.

This Indian version of burger is made from fresh pav and potato vada and has dominated the snack time of people of all ages, occupations and classes in and around country’s economical capital Mumbai.

Sharing some interesting and lesser known information regarding the delicious snack, a user named Dipak Pujari wrote, “Today is World Vada Pav Day. It is believed to be invented on 23rd Aug 1966 by Mumbaikar, Ashok Vaidya, who opened the 1st Vada Pav stall opp Dadar Station, serving 1000s of textile workers – in need of a quick, inexpensive snack every day on way to the mills”.
