Odisha: Groom cycles to his wedding to protest against fuel price hike in India

Samal stated that this move will allow the leaders and lawmakers to know the ground reality of the masses.

New Delhi: Fuel prices are witnessing a surge like never before, becoming troublesome for the general public across India. Several people have taken to the roads to protest against the hike. However, this man from Odisha has taken a different initiative to express his protest against the rising fuel prices.

A man named Subhranshu Samal from Odisha’s Bhubaneshwar rode a bicycle to his wedding venue to protest against the increase in fuel prices. Samal stated that though his family had arranged for an expensive marriage procession, “I decided to use a bicycle to reach the wedding pandal to lodge my protest against the high and ever-increasing price of fuel in the country.”

The groom covered a distance of 1 km by riding a bicycle in his wedding attire. His family and friends accompanied him on foot to attend the wedding. The incident took place in the Unit III area of the city.

Besides, many people who saw the groom’s efforts supported him and even clicked his pictures. One of the people among the baraati stated, “Even bystanders and passersby took selfies with Subhranshu riding cycle.”

Samal stated that this move will allow the leaders and lawmakers to know the ground reality of the masses. “Staging agitations near Raj Bhavan have become normal practice by political parties. As an individual I preferred to show my displeasure,” he said.

“Those at helm should get an idea of the anger that is there in the people on the fuel price issue,” he added.

The price of petrol per litre in Bhubaneswar costs Rs 103.18 on Monday.
