Lalit Modi is a businessman, a cricket official, and a wanted guy at the moment. He founded the Indian Premier League (IPL), served as its first chairman and commissioner, and even oversaw the competition for three long years (till 2010). In addition, he held positions as Vice President of the BCCI (2005–2010), President of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (2005–2009 and 2014–2015), Vice President of the Punjab Cricket Association, and Chairman of the Champions League (2008–2010).


He was charged with misbehaviour, indiscipline, and financial irregularities in connection with the two rigged bids over the two new franchises, Kochi and Pune, after the IPL 2010 finals and was subsequently suspended from the BCCI. He was the subject of an investigation by the cricket governing body, which concluded that he was guilty of these allegations. He consequently received a lifetime ban in 2013.

He has also been accused of helping his IPL friends and family by giving them money and secretly converting them into team owners. Since the Indian authorities designated him a fugitive, he has resided in London, United Kingdom. His assets and reported net worth total roughly 4,555 crores. The renowned 117 Sloane Street in London is home to the former cricket administrator’s five-story mansion, which is 7000 square feet in size.

The company his father founded, Modi Enterprises, which he presently leads, has a diverse business portfolio that includes producing cigarettes, restaurants, multi-level marketing, agriculture chemicals, personal care, tea, and drinks. In an interview, Modi Enterprises’ managing director, Samir Modi, disclosed that the business had an FY21 revenue of 1,750 crores.
