Rabindranath Tagore Birth Anniversary: 10 Inspirational quotes of India’s first Nobel laureate

Tagore won the Nobel Prize in 1913, making him the first Asian and also the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.

New Delhi: Friday, May 7 is the 160th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore – India’s first Nobel prize winner and one of the world’s most prolific poets. Tagore is also known as the writer of India’s national anthem. He was born in Kolkata on May 7, 1961.

People also call Tagore as Gurudev, Kabiguru, and Biswakabi for his contribution to literature and poetry. And another famous title for him is the ‘Bard of Bengal’. Tagore won the Nobel Prize in 1913, making him the first Asian and also the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.

He was also the second non-European to win the Nobel Prize after former US President Theodore Roosevelt. Some of his well-known literary work includes Gitanjali, Choker Bali, Kabuliwala and Gitabitan. Tagore died on August 7, 1941 in his home in Kolkata.
