New Delhi: In this wedding season, social media platforms are flooded with videos and photos of the bride and groom performing the rituals. Wedding, besides holding an important place in the lives of the ones getting married as well as their families and friends is the celebration of the togetherness the couples promise for a lifetime. Hindu marriages behold several rituals like Kanyadaan, saat pheras, and lastly sindoordaan, however, performing all these rituals with a different angle can make them go viral, just as what happened to one of the recent weddings.
A video has gone viral where a Kolkata bride is seen putting sindoor on the forehead of the groom. The bride named Shalini Sen puts vermilion of the groom named Ankan Majumdar’s forehead.
Shalini and Ankan tied the knot on December 2. Photos and videos of the wedding were posted on Facebook by her sister Krittika, among which, this video grabbed the most number of attraction.
In the video, Shalini can be seen smiling while putting sindoor on the groom’s forehead, while loud cheers from the guests can be heard from the background.

Interestingly, the wedding was conducted by three priestesses as per Vedic norms. In fact, the wedding rituals were not only pronounced in Sanskrit but also Bengali. Notably, to equalise the rights of the bride and the groom, rituals like Kanyadaan are omitted.
The 11-second video has over 3 lakh views and more than 4,500 likes. Netizens congratulated the couple and showered love and blessing for their married life. Many even praised it as a step to break stereotypes. However, some even criticised the couple for making fun of the traditions.
This gesture is similar to what happened at the wedding of the Bollywood actors Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha last month. Rajkummar posted a video on Instagram where he insisted Patralekha put sindoor on his forehead. He was heard saying, “Tu bhi laga de.”
