Why is #BoycottHimalaya in top Twitter trends and what netizens are saying

Reportedly, the concerned right-wing groups have urged Hindus to buy meat that is cut as per the Hindu traditional method which is called ‘Jhatka.’

New Delhi:Karnataka has been experiencing several societal issues. Following the hijab row, the right-wing groups are now demanding a ban on halal products in the state.

Hindu Jagruthi Samithi, Srirama Sene, Bajrang Dal, and other right-wing groups have asked for the removal of halal certification from the signboards of the meat selling shops, in Karnataka. They have insisted Hindus to not buy meat that is halal cut. Reportedly, the concerned right-wing groups have urged Hindus to buy meat that is cut as per the Hindu traditional method which is called ‘Jhatka.’

On the other hand, a picture of Himalaya Drug Company’s ‘Halal Policy’ went viral on Twitter on Thursday. The ‘Halal Policy’ stated, “Our products comply with Islamic Law/Shariah and free from any forbidden ingredients under Islamic law.” It further added, “We have set up the Internal Halal Management Team comprising of senior executives (including Muslim) from various disciplines to be responsible for all matters pertaining to Halal certification.”

As it went viral, several netizens began demanding a ban on Himalayan products. Besides, #BoycottHimalaya began trending on Twitter. One of the users wrote, “I like my products cruelty free. So no Himalaya until it says no Halal. #BoycottHimalaya,” while another wrote, “Means you have no obligations for Hindus to fulfill! We have no place for halal in our values! #BotcottHimalaya.”
