New Delhi: Food delivery applications like Zomato & Swiggy have become omnipresent, owing to their acceptance by new breed of citizens who love to get food delivered their doorstep, at a quick of mouse. The unprecedented rise of Apps like Zomato & Swiggy is yet another instance of ‘ideas turning into unicorn’, however, a new service provider promises fierce competition to them & disrupt the whole food delivery business.

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a government created platform is finding great acceptance among people primarily because of its more reasonable & rationalized pricing over is peers Zomato & Swiggy.
Over last couple of days, many netizens are sharing how the pricing of food items delivered by Zomato & Swiggy are available at almost half the rate on govt-operated platform ONDC.

ONDCWhat is ONDC?

The ONDC is a digital platform development by Indian government to create a level-playing field for all the operators in the market. ONDC facilitates the direct interface between restaurants & consumers while ruling out the mediators & food order aggregators like Zomato, Swiggy & others.

And, this is not limited to just food deliveries. Using the ONDC application, users can also place multitude of orders including groceries, home décor, cleaning essentials, etc much like what they do on apps like Zepto, Blinkit & others.

How to Order Food on ONDC

For ordering food through ONDC, one need to login via one of its partner apps i.e. Paytm or magicpin.
Users can avail ONDC’s facilities in almost all cities, however, it offers wide array of services in Bangalore and Delhi.

The mode of operation is not very much different than Swiggy & Zomato, however, not all restaurants are available on this relatively new platform.

How ONDC delivers cheaper food

Reports suggest that Zomato & Swiggy charge a whopping 25-30% commission from restaurants for delivering food, however, the ONDC charges just 2-5%, thus allowing restaurant operators to provide a better deal to customers.
