CM Dhami felicitates Vandana Katariya, hands over Rs 25 lakh cheque for stellar show in Olympics hockey

Dhami said that the state govt is committed to building a strong sports infrastructure laced with all modern facilities.

New Delhi: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday felicitated hockey player Vandana Katariya for her and Team India’s excellent performance in Tokyo Olympics.

The Chief Minister visited Katariya’s residence and extended greetings to the hockey player as well as her family members for making the state proud.

Indian women’s hockey scripted history this year by storming into semi-finals in Tokyo Olympics, however, they missed out on the medal by a whisker. The women’s team were strong contenders for the bronze medal but unfortunately, luck didn’t favour them as they lost the crucial match against England 3-4 and failed to win their maiden Olympic medal.

CM Dhami handed over a monetary reward of Rs 25 lakh to hockey star Vandana Katariya and honoured her with ‘Teelu Rauteli’ award. Teelu Rauteli is an award given to women achievers by state’s women & child department to recognize their special contributions to society.

“Vandana scored a hat-trick in hockey match and thus inspired her teammates to perform better in the game,” he said.

Dhami said that the state govt is committed to building a strong sports infrastructure laced with all modern facilities.
