New Delhi: Against the backdrop of the standoff between BCCI and the PCB, ICC which is the governing body of cricket has given its ultimatum to PCB to come to a compromise or risk losing the hosting rights of the tournament to South Africa. The International Cricket Board (ICC) has asked PCB to adopt a hybrid model with India’s matches to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to a report from Sports Tak, it is revealed that if PCB doesn’t agree to a hybrid model, the tournament will be shifted to South Africa in its entirety.

Earlier, it was reported that PCB is in conversation with the Pakistan government on the next course of action. If PCB agrees, this will not be the first time a multi-team tournament will be played in a hybrid model. PCB adopted a hybrid model for Asia Cup 2023 as well. India played their matches in Sri Lanka and ended up winning the tournament.
Speaking about the Hybrid model, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has remarked that:

Till today, no one has discussed any ‘Hybrid Model’ with us nor are we willing to talk about it. But we have been showing good gestures for the last few years and no one should expect us to do it all the time…

What did Basit Ali remark?

Basit Ali asked the PCB to give two points to Pakistan if India doesn’t travel for the group stage match between these two teams. He advised Pakistan to play all the matches in their country, otherwise they should refuse to play.

In his latest interview, Ali remarked:

Play the hybrid model; and if India don’t come to Pakistan, then give two points to Pakistan. That’s my advice to PCB. It happened in 1996 as well. Do it now too…

Picking up previous incidents, Ali remarked that such an arrangement has happened in the past as well when West Indies and Australia both refused to travel to Sri Lanka due to security concerns.
