IND vs AUS 2nd ODI: Australia wins by 10 wickets after India’s batting collapse

Indian batting line-up suffered a collapse while Marsh and Head seemed to be batting on a different surface where they rained fours and sixes.

New Delhi: Mitchell Marsh continued where he left in the last game, along with Travis Head, as they chased 118 in 11 overs. Indian batting line-up suffered a collapse while Marsh and Head seemed to be batting on a different surface where they rained fours and sixes. Both of them scored quick fifties in a clinical chase after Mitchell Starc picked a five wicket haul.

Marsh and Head were having fun with the bowlers as they scored the boundaries. Mitchell Marsh scored 66* off 36, hitting six fours and six maximums as he books his spot in place of David Warner. Travis Head scored a 30-ball-51, hitting 10 fours in his knock while the Indian bowlers looked helpless defending a small total.

In the first inning, the Australian pacers used the overcast and swinging conditions after winning the toss where Starc milked most out of it. Strac ended up with the figures of 53/5 while Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis contributed with three and two wickets respectively.

Starc bowled his trademark inswingers and the Indian batters were not able to catch up with him. Shubman Gill was dismissed in the first over off a poor shot selection, followed by two consecutive wickets of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in the fifth over.

An inswinger by Starc also trapped KL Rahul for 9 while Steve Smith took a one-handed stunner in slips to dismiss Hardik Pandya early.

Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja tried to reconcile, but their 22-run stand was short lived as Nathan Ellis trapped Kohli lbw with a straighter delivery. Left handers Jadeja and Axar Patel laid a 20-run partnership before Ellis got Jadeja with Alex Carey’s catch behind the stumps. Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed for 16 off 39, ona shot he would regret for long.

Axar Patel hit two sixes against Starc before the final wicket of Mohammed Siraj fell. He remained not out for a run-a-ball 29, while the highest scorer for India was Virat Kohli, with 31 off 35, and looked rather in good touch before that ball which got him out.

With this game, the 3-match series stands 1-1 and the decider will be played in Chennai on March 22.
